ARGE COFFEE TABLE - Designed by Manuel Bañó
The OBJ-06 Large Coffee Table explores the expressive potential of copper through a dialogue between fire, repetition and traditional craftsmanship. Defined by concentric hammering, the table brings together two identical copper forms: an upper surface and its mirrored counterpart, which becomes the base. Separated by a deliberate void, the elements appear as independent sculptural volumes while creating a functional space for books and objects.
Handcrafted from recycled copper in collaboration with master artisans in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán, the piece emerges through an intricate process of material transformation. Heated until malleable, the copper is gradually shaped through precise, repetitive hammering, allowing each gesture to influence the final form.
Rather than concealing the traces of its making, the OBJ-06 celebrates them. Subtle variations, tonal shifts and rhythmic surface textures reveal the intimate relationship between material and maker. Through this process, Manu Bañó transforms an industrial material into a contemporary sculptural object, where traditional Mexican metalworking meets a distinctly minimal architectural language.
